Van Gaal says Martial injury not serious, praise his team PERFORMANCE yesterday

According to ESPN, Manchester united manager Louis van Gaal has revealed Martial's hamstring injury is not serious ahead of the weekend's match with Arsenal.

Anthony Martial withdrew from the starting line up in the warm- up ahead of Europa League tie with FC Midtjylland, complaining of a tight hamstring. Van Gaal confirmed in his post-match press conference - after United had won 5-1 - that the player made the call himself, and he praised Martial for making a sensible decision.

Manchester united goalie David de Gea suffered the same fate in last week's first leg, but Van Gaal gave no indication that Martial would miss the Arsenal game speaking after the match.

"The first impression is that it  is not heavy. He is tired and he can be tired because he is 20 and he has played all the matches. What is remarkable is that he stepped down himself. He said.

"I couldn't believe it was happening again. It is unbelievable. It is difficult to change or rotate when you don't have any other players.

"I don't think Martial has a muscle injury because he stepped down when he felt his hamstring was tight. It is ridiculous to lose two players in the warm-up against the same opposition, but we had to keep going and we did." Van said.

Manchester united Teenager Marcus Rashford got the call to make his debut just minutes before kick off in Martial's place, and he ended up scoring two goals. According to the club's website, Van Gaal revealed what he told the player at half time and praised his performance.

"He was unbelievable. I think he ran too much in the first half, across the whole pitch, and I think a striker has to play more in the width of the goal. I told him at half-time that he would score if he did that, and he scored twice, so it’s fantastic!  He added.

"It’s not only great for him, but also the team because we needed this victory. We are still fighting in three competitions and not many clubs can say that."said the manager.

Depay earned the man of the match award though, and Van Gaal reserved praise for him too..

"I have seen a fantastic performance from Memphis, everyone has seen that  I think he was also spectacular. I hope he’ll also show that against Arsenal; it’s another level, but I’m very confident he’ll do it.
Have you seen this nutmeg? Oh Memphis, you ruined his life!! Lol!.said Van Gaal.

"It was a great performance and I think the fans will have enjoyed our attacking football. I believe they crossed the middle line for the first time when they scored.

"Normally you get a decline in confidence, but it was not like that as we scored, but missed a penalty – unbelievable! Still we kept going and going so I must give great compliment to my players because it is not so easy to do that.

"You can say that (we are moving in the right direction) but we have to play Arsenal within two days which is, more or less, not easy to do as your players have to recover. We have to cope with that and I hope it shall be a very good match.

United will face Tough side Arsenal on Sunday. Match of the weekend.
