Neymar Junior sign new 5years contract for Barcelona
The contract which will begin this summer and run until 2021 - is set to make the Brazilian star the second highest paid player at Barcelona behind Lionel Messi, though it was revealed to have been signed back in December, when Barcelona were in Japan for the Club World Cup.
The announcement of the new deal was delayed because of issues surrounding the Brazilian's recent tax issues with Spanish and Brazilian authorities. His previous deal was set to expire in 2018, and speculation had been growing that one of Manchester United or Manchester City could tempt the 24-year-old away from Camp Nou, according to the report.
However, the player had always seemed to profess his desire to commit to Barcelona in spite of the speculation and it's now emerged that he's done just that. The legal issues surrounding the player over the last few months have meant the deal was signed in secret.
The Brazilian has appeared in court in Spain recently over irregularities surrounding his initial transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013, while Brazilian authorities have recently moved to block Neymar's assets as the player has been found guilty of evading taxes while playing for Santos.
Because of the issues, Neymar's father stated in November that no deal would be reached until the court issues were cleared, as ESPN report: "We are talking about renewing but there are things outstanding still to resolve, which have us a bit worried. There cannot be these tax concerns from not knowing if we are doing things correctly.
"We must know if Spain accepts our situation. It is hard for us because we are receiving many attacks, from Brazil and from Spain, in tax matters." said Neymar's father.
